Melody Thornton

Melody Thornton Bio

Melody Thornton is an American pop singer, songwriter, dancer and television personality who rose to stardom as the youngest member of the successful pop group The Pussycat Dolls.

According to Slant Magazine, she is often recognized as “the group’s best vocalist”. Recently, Melody co-starred in E!’s show Bank of Hollywood produced by Ryan Seascrest, she was the on-camera correspondent for TV Guide for the 2010 Grammy Awards, presented two awards at the 2010 World Music Awards in Monte Carlo and opened the 2010 Ween Awards with a solo performance.

Melody definitely has created an enigmatic stage persona from her work with The Pussycat Dolls. At the age of 19, the Phoenix native joined everyone’s favourite girl group after an open-casting call in December 2004. Her flawless soprano helped carry the group’s 2006 Interscope Records debut, PCD, to multi-platinum heights worldwide on singles like the mega-hits Don’t Cha and Buttons. They toured the entire world before releasing 2008′s Doll Domination and hit the road again—this time with Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Ne-Yo. From all of that experience with the Dolls, Melody crafted an inimitable performance and writing style that fuels her personal endeavours.

Now it’s Melody’s time to shine. “I’m focused on writing my own music now,” she says. “It’s always been my aspiration to use The Pussycat Dolls as a platform to really learn as much as I could and build off of my fan base. I want to show the world I have a well-rounded voice.” The show remains the most important piece of the puzzle for her. She continues, “I think you should put on a show if you’re a performer. To me, the best part of making music is performing. There’s no point in recording just to record. I only record to perform live.” In addition to recording on her own, Melody launched www.onlythemelody.com in 2010, her personal site which will bring fans closer to her than ever before.

Ultimately, it’s about inspiring others, “I thank God every day that music discovered me when I was a kid. My music teacher tricked me into my first talent show, and I performed ‘This Little Light of Mine’ in the first grade, in the third grade I performed ‘Without You’ by Mariah Carey. She instilled a lot of confidence in me. Since then, I’ve felt like my purpose is to entertain people, move them, make them happy and create a vibration that inspires. I’d love to hear some little girl say, ‘You make me want to sing. You made me love music.’ That’s what my influences did for me. I’d love to be able to inspire with my voice.”

Stay tuned.
