Rachael Starr

Rachael Starr Bio

Rachael is a perfect blend of finely tuned DJ skills and a powerful voice that make for a unique and seamless experience.

Combining skill with modernism and her aptitude for style with ingenuity, Rachael is breaking new grounds in the electronic and dance music industries with hit singles such as Till There Was You, To Forever and most recently We Are The Night.

There is clearly little territory this young artist hasn’t embraced; as a result, Rachael now stands among the top ranking electronic artists, touted as a respected producer, exciting DJ and a unique vocalist. Originally from California, Rachael was brought up in a musical household and received informal training in the piano, cello and voice. Her interest in dance music was first sparked around 1992 when she discovered producers such as Orbital, Underworld and Prodigy. This knowledge, along with her desire to create music, incited the same passion in others as it did in her and led to a natural progression to production and DJ-ing. And she’s been hooked ever since!

Rachael began producing in 2000, when she ingeniously combined her love for computers and music. She has spent years honing her production and engineering skills while dabbling in genres ranging from house and techno to down-tempo and dream-pop. After creating and releasing a few EPs and remixes, Rachael made an unexpected move by adding vocals to her music. The result? Her first self-produced vocal tune Remember.

Summer 2005 saw the release of Rachael’s true production and vocal debut titled Till There Was You. The song was picked up by major dance labels all over the world including Ultra (US), Positiva (UK) and Ministry of Sound (AUS) and received remixes from duos Gabriel & Dresden and Creamer & K among others. It quickly became a revolutionary cross-genre hit, being played by nearly every major DJ from Pete Tong, who voted it as the “essential new tune” and Tiesto to Armand Van Buuren and Erick Morillo. The follow-up single Crash, which included an excellent remix from Italy’s Massimo Santucci, remained on the underground circuit for several months before breaking through at Miami’s Winter Music Conference and the Ibiza summer season.

Rachael’s first collaboration project spawned the defining track of summer 2008, Bleeding Heart. Gaining massive popularity in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, it featured production from France’s David Vendetta, vocals from Rachael Starr, violins from Micah the violinist, and saw remixes from Balasko and Rachael herself.

In 2008, Rachael took a different musical direction with her release of To Forever. It was remixed by heavyweights such as Joshua Collins, Moonbeam and Deadmau5 and featured on Tiesto’s best-selling mix compilation In Search of Sunrise 7, on Black Hole Recordings. Moreover, To Forever reached legendary status with not just DJs but also punters, receiving nearly two million YouTube views to date.

More recently, Rachael has released numerous tracks, remixes, and collaborations with the likes of In The Screen (i.e. Erick Morillo, Harry Romero, Jose Nunez), Cedric Gervais and Serge Devant. The highly anticipated collaboration with In The Screen titled We Are The Night was released amidst a massive buzz it accumulated before its release. With this kind of press, it’s no surprise it’s one of the biggest bangers of the year.

The future is wide open for this bright girl as Rachael has definitely earned the reputation of an artist who is always looking forward and refuses to accept any picky definitions or classifications of dance music. Completely conscious of what she is doing, Rachael continues to make music that is both floor moving and deep. The next few years look very promising, and the dance music community is eagerly anticipating the release of her debut artist album, as well as more collaborations and remixes from prolific musicians. Overall the best way to describe Rachael and her musical approach would be in her own words: “In the end what it comes down to is the music, what it is as a whole and how it makes me who I am…”
